Book Review: Saga Vol 1-3

Saga, Volume 1Saga, Volume 1 by Brian K. Vaughan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

There is nothing I don't like about this comic.
Its funny but read organically. The couple are cute and have their issues.
All the characters are fleshed out and all have their own histories.
The Stalk is creepy and strangely beautiful. The Will may be a monster but still has a line even he wont cross.
Hazel's commentary is brilliant, letting us know that the baby survives long enough to tell the story but leaving the fate of either of the main characters open for suspense.
Isobel is a pretty cool teenager too and has a personality that adds to the mix.
Sextillians' brothel scene with The Will also gives us a glimpse of the kind of beings in the world and adds to the world building marvellously despite its serious content towards the end.
On the note of series content, this comic is about War and all the things that result from war, including the child sex trade and the death of children so I am going to give this a TRIGGER WARNING!
I've already had the second one put aside for me at my local comic book store and pre-ordered the third book.

Saga, Volume 2Saga, Volume 2 by Brian K. Vaughan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Its a strange, beautiful and creepy universe out there.
The kids got wit and she's doing a wonderful job of narrating her own story.

Saga, Volume 3Saga, Volume 3 by Brian K. Vaughan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So this volume broke my heart and now I am vested in the story line going on between The Will, Gwendolyn and Slave Girl (who has now been given a name). There is a brilliant page with only Slave Girl and Lying Cat that made me cry it was so beautiful. I can't wait to see what this series has for us next.

View all my reviews If you have not checked these out I definitely recommend you give them a go.

We meet the parents in the first few pages giving birth to our little narrator:

The parents, Alanna and Marco are on opposing sides of a war that has raged for generations and spanned the universe, killing many other races in their hatred for each other. We find out later how they came to be together and who is chasing them, right at the beginning though we only know they are not meant to be together and both sides now want them dead. The birth of their daughter, and our narrator for the story only increases the need of the two races to have this little family silenced.

We soon meet The Will and Lying Cat. The Will is a bounty hunter and Lying Cat is a giant cat that can tell when someone is lying.

And then there is Robot Prince IV who wants to complete his mission and get back to Robot Princess who is pregnant with their first child:
And of course there are many, many other characters that we meet along the way.
