My rating: 4 of 5 stars
A fun quick read helped along by the fact that I have watched the first two movies before starting this book. I can also see where the movie had to add or change bits as most of the story if following the book wouldn't have been very interesting on the big screen. however there were little things that could have appeared in the movie that would have explained things that weren't making much sense in the movie.
The book itself is colourful and funny. The dwarves made me think of the seven dwarves in Snow White rather than high fantasy novel dwarves but this is suppose to be a kids book so they did suit the narrative. Though I got to picturing the elves as wee little creatures which didn't suit certain passages, mainly with the elven kings.
It was certainly an entertaining read and fun besides the dangers faced and that point in which I could have seriously throttled all the male characters with their pig-headedness towards the end.
I bought the pocket size edition because its about a hobbit and I thought that suited. This edition also comes with the first chapter of Lord Of The Rings and is filled with drawings that the author sketched which added to the overall feel of the book. My copy only actually had 276 pages of the actual story though.
