Oz Comic Con - 1 week to go!

My little sister arrives on Wednesday!
I am super excited!
Although there were some hiccups with booking her flights so I couldn't get any time off of work we will still have a whole week to rock out together.
We are heading out to Draculas Cabaret theatre with VIP seats to see Spider Lash.
Canapés and a glass of bubbly on arrival with a gift bag.

Looking forward to the signature dessert, Death by Chocolate

On the weekend we are headed to Oz Comic Con, to see this guy:
 And of course these people:
Already have our tickets and are keen as ever to get going.
Not long now!

Bringing Fallen London to Life

I've been playing this game for a fair while now called Fallen London (previously Echo Bizarre).
It appealed to my Gothy-ness and now appeals to my fascination with Steampunk.
While I am trying to put together a steampunk outfit I thought I would like to add some bits and pieces from Fallen London and see if anyone recognises them.

Project 1: Glass of Teeth
Ok so this one is pretty easy, a glass with some teeth in it, but I needed to make it portable as I would be taking it with me to events.
Today while I was checking out the fantastic selection of books in the Salvos I came across this gorgeous little glass jar with a cork and a metal handle, its perfect!
I can attach the metal handle to hang off my belt and fill the jar with all the dentist teeth I have left over.
I would like to buy some more teeth to fill the jar up though. Think it will look much better stacked full.

Project 2: Rattus Faber Bandit Chief
Now honestly I though this one might be too difficult, I mean where the heck can you get a plush rat?

Ikea, it seems.
We were in Ikea a few weeks back now, looking for furniture to fill our new unit when I saw a huge selection of 'Mus' toys, in black, white and brown.
And they were really cheap! ($2.50)
I've made him a little mask that ties up at the back just like in the picture but will have to order a barbie jacket to complete his look.
I am still considering if it is a good idea to colour his eyes red or not. I have a posca paint pen in red, so I might give it a go.
I have a heap of more ideas for bringing more of Fallen London to life, but that can wait till another night.

Book Review: Fire Lords Lover (VF Bookclub pick)

The Fire Lord's Lover (The Elven Lords, #1)The Fire Lord's Lover by Kathryne Kennedy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I found I really enjoyed this. I love the evil elven lords and thought it was indeed set up nicely for a series but could also be taken on its own with no real need to continue the series unless you really wanted to.
Dominic's struggle with his elven and human halves were interesting and I really felt for him, though I really felt for the poor dragon trying to help him and could almost feel the frustration he must have felt over not being listened to.
Cas was a weird combination of assured woman and damsel in distress, and it seemed she could take better care of herself when Dominic wasn't around. I found her death dances a little too silly to comprehend and couldn't really see any of her assassin training come to use besides that one time. I also thought something would come of her faith in God, seems strange to mention it so much in a fantasy world if your not going to use it in some way.
The dialog between characters was not great but the internal dialog got annoying.
Still it was an entertaining read and I am keen to actually find out more about what is going on in this world and will probably continue the series.

Quick Graphic Novel Review: Vamplets - The Nightmare Nursery

Vamplets Volume One: The Nightmare NurseryVamplets Volume One: The Nightmare Nursery by Gayle Middleton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A very cute and funny intro to the world of Vamplets. Welcome to Gloomvania indeed!
Definitely keen to see where this all goes and how Destiny copes when she finally meets the little terrors at Nightmare Nursery.

I received this comic from the Vamplets Kickstarter, its the very first Vamplets story though I am sure there are many more to come.

Recipe! My own homemade "Ramen"

A couple of years back now I went to Tokyo and discovered Ramen, REAL Ramen.
It was so delicious and I went to this little ramen place near my hotel almost every night.
When I got home I wanted to show my partner how good ramen really was.
This is in no way as good as the ramen you get in Tokyo, but he loves it.

Ramen
Serves 2

Ingredients:
  • 2 packets Mi Goreng Noodles (in the 2 minute noodle section)
  • Choy Sum
  • 2x eggs
  • 2 slices of Speck portion
Optional
  • Garlic granules
  • onion flakes (these are so good!)
  • Chilli Flakes (we prefer spicy foods)
  • Lobster Oil (found this at the Adelaide airport - so good!)

  1. In a large saucepan being enough water to cover the eggs completely to the boil.
  2. Add eggs to hard boil (7+ mins)
  3. Cut up the slices of speck into bite size pieces and add to the boiling water and eggs
  4. Add the sachets from the noodle packs to the water with any/all of the optional ingredients.
  5. Fish the eggs out of the boiling water and set aside to cool (I put mine in the fridge/freezer for a little while)
  6. Wash and cut the Choy Sum into bite size pieces (around 3cm) and add to the boiling water.
  7. Allow to cook for a little while before adding the noodles.

8. Peel the egg shells and cut the eggs into quarters.
Place into the bottom of the bowls ready to serve.
 9. Remove the saucepan from the heat and using tongs pull out the choy sum, speck pieces and noodles and add to bowls.
 10. Spoon the broth over the ingredients in the bowls and serve!
Serve with a fork and spoon.
 Delicious!
