Book Review: Book Club Pick - Serious sexy times

Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1)Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The title really says it all, 8% in and they have sex for the first time. There is a storyline besides all the sex but it is not really resolved, not fully anyway.
Tay is a demon slayer, E is a demon (a incubus actually) and also a doctor of a secret underground hospital that treats demons that have been attacked or been in accidents. E's three brothers and sister all work at the hospital, his sister Skulk is an ambulance driver and decided to pick up and bring the slayer to the hospital for treatment. Queue the sexy times!
The demon law created for this novel is pretty interesting, with the inclusion of many many species of demon, some are good and some are bad.
Its an exciting little read and a guilty little pleasure.

My Day: Book Launch

I had other things to do today, so exhibitions to go see for the Loreal Fashion Festival but as I was leaving the unit I saw on facebook that there was a book launch scheduled for today at All Star Comics.
Now I had never set foot in All Star Comics before, I've only been in this city for 4 weeks after all, but I thought why not? I'm going to be in the city anyways.
So I browsed the exhibition at Federation Square and even bought some books at the Book Market then headed on over to All Star Comics.
Now at first I went the wrong way, misreading my writing and headed towards 40 instead of 410 Lonsdale street. This only lost me around 15 mins and I still waited around as some people were running late for the launch.
While waiting around in the store one of the staff brought these delicious mini cupcakes around for us all to enjoy. One of the other staff members apparently made them and THEY WERE GOOD, SO GOOD!
Red Velvet Mini Cupcake with the store logo on it.
Mud Choc Mini Cupcake with Madman logo on it.
I also took the opportunity to purchase the launched book and another comic I had been looking for.
A fair while later it begain...
You see this particular comic book is being made into an animation series - Cool huh?
So the writer Tom Taylor stood up and talked about the series and why he made this particular comic and how his kids were the inspiration for doing it.
Then he told us what he could about the animation series that is still in production and then we watched a short teaser trailer.
Very promising.
Now I love anything a bit quirky and within that 2 mins or so short I could tell the quirk in this series is gonna be the fish!
WATCH THE FISH!
Then the artist James Brouwer stood up and spoke to us (semi-willing) about the production process and the costume design of the series vs the book.
Then the signing begain... well after some markers were found for them to sign with.
James on the left and Tom on the right.
There were a film crew there during the whole event, filming a documentry.
I did a very brief interview after I got my book signed.
All in all it was a good time to be had and the cupcakes were devine and the cartoon should by all accounts be a success.

Book Review: Silver

Silver: My Own Tale As Written by Me with a Goodly Amount of MurderSilver: My Own Tale As Written by Me with a Goodly Amount of Murder by Edward Chupack
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A bloody tale of the rise of the legendary Long John Silver and his adventures and misfurtunes bringing us up to date with his capture from the Tresure Island story and his demise.
Captain Long John Silver has been captured and is locked in his own bunk as his captors man his own ship the Linda Maria. We discover what has transpired in Johns life from his days as a nameless street rat to the captain his is today, through his writings to the captain who now sails the lady Linda Maria and his words with Mullet.
Its a rocketing romp through a pirates life and a bit of fun to read though the narrative can be a little annoying at times. John Silver has a tendancy to ramble and much of what he says is repeated, even in his younger years. This only gets worse as the fever takes him. In some parts two whole pages are read and nothing has really been said.
Still a fun read for those who love a good pirates tale.

Book Review: First Bite

First Bite: The Wicked Queen's TaleFirst Bite: The Wicked Queen's Tale by Laura Briggs
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

From the cover art and no description I was expecting something silly and fun. I was not expecting the darkness of this tale.
Lilith was the first witch, making a pact with the dark prince for eternal youth and beauty so long as she sacrifices and drinks the heart blood of innocent maidens.
The story is very dark covering Liliths deal with the Prince of Darkness and insights into the mayhem she has reaked over her time, from the begining of time and the story of how she became the Wicked Queen known in the tale of Snow White.
We are given snippets of other novels based on witches which relate to the chapter we are about to read and the author has proper witch folklore to bring her witches to life.
The opening sequence gives us a first glimpse of the Queens current helper, a midwife that brands baby girls at their birth marking them for the Queens sacrifice. This first incident takes us to a dark place and sets the tone for the rest of the story.
We are given a backstory for the Huntsman and see more of him after his infamous scene with Snow White.
We are introduced to the old midwives assistant, a poor malnurished girl who is beaten and tormaented by the hag for as long as she remembers.
We meet Snow White following her story as far as the Queens tale takes us.
If you are looking for a retelling of Snow White than this is not for you, we do not find out Snow Whites full story, we are following the Queen, the Huntsman and the Midwife and her Assistant.
This tale brings the smaller characters to life as the main characters and main characters of the story are set back.
You should like this if you enjoyed the movie Snow White and the Huntsman and wanted to know more about the doomed Wicked Queen.

Book Review: Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Book Club)

Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1)Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wow! The descriptions of prague are outstanding, you are transported to the back streets and the beautiful little hidden Poison Kitchen. Equally as descriptive were the chimera, stuff of legands and brought to life in full colour and personality. The angels glow from the page in a blazing glory.
The story of a girl raised by 'monsters' and studiying art in Prague with shocking blue hair, trying to figure out who she is.
In the last part of the book we are trasported back to discover who she really is.
Great imagery throughout the book and a whirlwind ride with an interesting kickarse heroine.

Reason for not blogging in a month

WE MOVED!!
We have left Far North Queensland and migrated south... really south
We are living in Melbourne Victoria.
Its always strange to see your living room for the past 6 years completely empty.
We have attended a Melbourne Hearts game
Thats right - Soccer!
I also stumbled across an unofficial Little Library
Unofficial as the person who set it up hasn't registered it on the official webpage.

We have explored the streets and found this lovely snake at the Casino while we were exploring the White Night Festival.
The Das T-Shit Automat was brilliant too, you order your t-shirt from a hole in the wall.
There is so much street art EVERYWHERE in Melbourne. I will have to do a post on just the street art.
This is on the wall inside the South Melbourne Markets

Book Review: The Apothecary's Daughter

The Apothecary's Daughter. Charlotte BettsThe Apothecary's Daughter. Charlotte Betts by Charlotte Betts
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Charlotte is so descriptive and the story is brilliant.
The horrors of the plague are brought to life through the characters we are introduced to. The characters each have their flaws and yet work so well together.
Susanna is a brazen red head with a quick temper who had been spoiled by her father unwilling to really let her go to marriage after the tragic death of his wife in the child bed. She has been taught the ins and outs of apothecary and has soaked up the information prooving herself invaluable in the field. She soon discovers that in her time she is not accepted as anything rather than a wife and mother and after her father remarries finds that life is not so easy for woman.
The descriptions of events that occur in the book pull you into the story and bring those events to life.
Though the main character is not always likable the story keeps you coming back and turning the pages in a frenzy to know who will survive.
