Night Noodle Markets - Late November Food Festival

 Every year from Mid to End of the month of November the Night Noodle Markets is held at Birrarung Marr. It's a hot bed of Asian cuisine sold from tents and trucks to hundreds of punters looking for a feed.

 This year there was three levels created around the park with the walk ways and each level was filled with food and make-shift bars all ready to serve you food and drink till late in the evening.

 As I walk home this way after work I walked past as they set the market up and on the 19th November, a particularly warm evening, I met some peeps and heading on in.

 KPC - Korean Popcorn Chicken, the bottom was stuffed with rocket and this tasted amazing!

 Despite all the signs stating that the skewers were 3 for $10 the man serving was selling them for 4 for $10.

These were super delicious and I had two lots. (prawn, calamari, chicken and beef)

 Getting there straight after work turned out to be a good idea, since it started to pack out the later in the day it got.

On the way home over the bridge, you could look out over the market and see all the bbq steam the kitchens were creating.

Entry is free and it runs evenings all week in the later part of November.

Beer costs around $8

Meals cost vary and all stalls are restaurants or ready established food trucks.

 



Drawing Straws (November): Life Drawing at the Butterfly Club

Down the little alley way Carson Place, just off Little Collins Street in the Melbourne CBD is The Butterfly Club.

In The Butterfly Club you can hang out and look at all the knick-knacks they have all over the place, you can see a play or join the glee club, OR on a Tuesday night you can partake in some Burlesque Life Drawing.  

Welcome to Drawing Straws..

 So it costs a minimum of $15, but you can give a little bit more and the proceeds go to the model you have that night.

The class starts with a few warm up drawing exercises to get you warmed up and ready to draw.

There is a short break then the model arrives and does her Burlesque routine for the class.

Then the drawing begins.

 There are several poses, standing lasts for 5 mins and sitting lasts for 10 mins.

In that time you produce whatever kind of drawing you can.

 

Then there is a final reclining pose which you get 20 mins to complete.

No matter if you can really draw or not it's still a fun Tuesday night activity and the upstairs bar is open to wet your whistle while you draw away.

Open Day at the Abbotsford Convent (November)

 9th of November brought the Abbotsford Convent Open Day and Market.

It is not an active Convent in that there are no Nuns living there anymore.

The building is being rented out as space and studios for artists, while also restoring the building to it's former glory.

The open day allows people to come in and see artists / authors / natural therapist and whoever else in their rented space doing whatever it is they do.

There is also loads of markets going on to buy hand-made items from the artists in residence.

 Art instillations are through-out the building

 The architecture and interior design is rather amazing as well

 There is also a childrens farm, where you can take the kids to see all sorts of farm animals any time of the year, and during the summer months the Shadow Electric runs an outdoors theatre on the grounds.

 What market would be complete without baked goods.

It's been years since I had soft toffee, so glad I don't have any fillings.

Armageddon (catching up on some bloggin) October 18th

 Saturday October 18th was Armageddon (also on the Sunday but I didn't go)

My main reason for going to this one was Doctor Who, the weeping angel was coming.

The Daleks were out and about and scaring a couple of tiny Doctors

 Then Doctor Whooves arrived to save the day.

 And everyone jumped into the Tardis.

 I met the lovely Sarah Louise Madison, who plays a weeping angel in Doctor Who

 I also scored this awesome Vastra and Jenny print by Stewart McKenny

I also bought this cute little Doctor Whooves cupcake keepsake.

Book Review: The Perfume Lover.

The Perfume Lover: A Personal History of Scent. Denyse Beaulieu by Denyse Beaulieu

The story starts out as a story about Denyse Beaulieu's meeting with Bertrand Duchaufour that produced a perfume based on her story of a sensual night spent in Seville. However as it explores the ins and outs of producing a fragrance it also takes us back in time to discover the scents that make up Denyse's history.
Exploring the history and myths of the perfume industry and lifting the lid on what makes the scents we recognise we are taken far into a world that we may never have realised is there.
You will never look at a bottle of perfume the same way again.

I was finally able to get my hands on a small 2ml sample vial of this perfume. I'm testing it on my skin right now, but it looks like it's all good. Deep dark and delicious. I'll be keen to get my hands on a full size bottle soon. There are so many pleasing layers to the smell and it's really unique to have read the entire story of the perfume before picking it up.
